
Straight after the General Assembly Meeting of RDIS Organization held at the head quarter of Butare Anglican Diocese on 23rd February 2024; Five Talents Ubumwe Saving and Credit Association (abbreviated 5T Ubumwe) was launched by 157 founding members from the geographical boundaries RDIS members, the Anglican Dioceses of Butare, Cyangugu, Kigeme, Nyaruguru, and, Shyogwe. This launch marked a first step to register a Saving and Credit Cooperative governed by Rwanda Cooperative Agency.

Rural Development Inter-Diocesan Service (RDIS) is registered as a Data Controller under Registration Number 001/0847/1023, after fulfilling registration requirements in accordance with Law No 058/2021 of 13/10/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy. The registration which was obtained on 17th October 2023 after complying with the above said law has been issued by the National Cyber Security Authority, Data Protection and Privacy Office. RDIS is hence authorized to process relevant personal data and determine the means of their processing in the Republic of Rwanda as stipulated by the law.

The celebration and onboarding workshop was held at Hill View Hotel, Rubavu District on 17th to 19th January 2024. It was not only a celebration, but also a communication and training workshop for the new cohort members to acquaint them with TerraFund’s core business processes. This event was prepared for the second cohort of TerraFund for AFR100 champions on land restauration in Rwanda which is composed of 20 organisations (1 for-profit and 19 non-profits among which RDIS is included, with its project “Revitalizing Lake Kivu Basin in Nyamasheke and Rusizi through landscape restoration"). In the event and workshop, the participants got insights from Restoration Champions on their experience with TerraFund and their aspirations for impact in Rwanda, and acquainted with TerraFund’s core business processes.

Richard Madete is a German national who has worked as a consultant or consulting engineer for the Rwanda Rural Development and Inter-diocesan Service (RDIS) for about six years, from July 2017 to November 2023. He was sent by the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) and 'Brot für die Welt' to help RDIS in its mission to support the work of RDIS in various fields of rural development.
During his six years of service, Richard has been involved in many projects and activities that have improved the lives of the rural communities in Rwanda.

We are thrilled to share the impactful journey of our representative, Mr. Eric Bagenzi, RDIS Director of Environmental Care and Disaster Risk Reduction, who attended COP28 in Dubai. The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP28, was the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, held from 30 November to 12 December at Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This marked a significant milestone as it was the first COP experience for RDIS personnel, propelling us into a new era of climate action. In his comprehensive report, Mr. Bagenzi aptly describes COP28 as more than a conference; it was a baptism by fire in the global fight against climate change. Attending as an NGO observer, he immersed himself in the urgency and gravity of the climate crisis.

Butare Diocese of the Anglican Church of Rwanda, one of RDIS founding member got a new Bishop. The Right Rev. Christophe Nshimyimana was consecrated and enthroned in St Paul Cathedral in Huye District on 10th December 2023 as a fourth Bishop of EAR Butare Diocese. The ceremony was led by the Most Rev. Dr Laurent Mbanda, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Rwanda together with other Rwanda Anglican Bishops, and was attended by church members and church partners. The guest of honour, Hon. Musabyimana Jean Claude, Rwanda Minister of Local Government who emphasized on the fact that followers of the church are citizens of the country hence under shared responsibilities, reiterated that the government asks and ensures the continued cooperation with Butare diocese. In the Bishop’s strategic priorities, he pointed out the environmental safeguarding and holistic community development which is in line with the mission statement of RDIS.
