Muhanga, October 18, 2025.  Five Talents Ubumwe Cooperative (5T Ubumwe) successfully held its first General Assembly meeting following its official accreditation by the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA) under registration number RCA-MU-012460, granted on September 18, 2025 as a financial service cooperative. This achievement follows the founding meeting of Five Talents Ubumwe  held at Hye on the 23rd February 2024 which brought together 157 peoples from geographical boundaries of RDIS members (the Five  Anglican Dioceses of Butare, Cyangugu, Kigeme, Nyaruguru,and Shyogwe), and the obtention of a provisional registration on the 09th June 2024. After approval of new members, the cooperative currently counts more than 500 members.

The meeting took place at the EAR Shyogwe Diocese Hall, and marked a significant milestone in the cooperative’s development transitioning from an initial savings and credit association to a formally recognized cooperative institution.

Rural Development and Inter-Diocesan Service (RDIS), as the promoter of the initiative, has played a central role in supporting the cooperative from its inception through the accreditation process. RDIS has been committed to facilitating registration procedures from the early stages of Five Talents Ubumwe’s formation to its official recognition by the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), and now in its progress to the licencing by the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR). The organization continues to make close follow-up and, in collaboration with the cooperative’s elected bodies, undertakes major administrative and technical support that require institutional experience and coordinated management. 

The 5T-Ubumwe General Assembly, focused on key governance and operational areas, including:

  1. Presentation, reception and approval of activity and financial reports carried out in the transition period;
  2. Adoption of policies, bylaws and internal rules and regulations and related amendments;
  3. Admission of new members and approval of members of the organs;
  4. Approval of a business plan, planning strategies for membership growth, financial sustainability, and future compliance with national financial service cooperative standards.

In her address, the Guest of Honour representing decentralized administrative entities in charge of the development of cooperatives, Mrs Alexia Nyirangendahimana, Nyamabuye Sector official in charge of cooperatives stressed on the importance of cooperatives in the development of both their members and the country. Thanking Five Talents Ubumwe Cooperative for strict law adherence and promising progress, she urged its leadership and members to quickly stepping up in seeking the National Bank of Rwanda license.

Stakeholders commended the cooperative’s progress and reaffirmed their continued collaboration to strengthen governance, capacity building, and financial inclusion among members.

With more than 100 active members, Five Talents Ubumwe Cooperative (5T Ubumwe)  is a financial service cooperative headquartered in Kavumu Cell, Nyamabuye Sector, Muhanga District, and aims to empower communities through accessible financial services, promoting socio-economic transformation in the region.
