RDIS launches “Kitchen Performance Test two"

The Cooking Stove Project Rusizi-Rwanda (CSPRR) goes into the next round. A small delegation of RDIS staff, led by the Project Manager Vincent Minani, went to Rusizi to continue with the ongoing distribution phase of 120 improved cooking stoves.
The project is following the guidelines of CCER and is designed as a scale up. RDIS is aiming to fulfill many different goals, which were discussed during the “Local Stakeholders Consultation Meeting", like protecting members of the household from different eye diseases caused by smoke.
RDIS scales up its project for distribution of Improved Cook Stoves in Rwanda!

RDIS organization is proud to present its newest partnership with CANOPY ENERGIES SAS for its scale-up project for distribution of cookstoves in Rwanda.
Together with CANOPY ENERGIES SAS, which pledges to fight global warming by focusing on producing clean energy and reducing carbon emissions, we plan to distribute 50,000 Improved Cook Stoves to all eligible households in the Rusizi district in Western Rwanda over the next 2 years.
Providing households with improved cook stoves reduces the wood consumption by a factor 2.5, and thus limits the emissions of greenhouse gases due to cooking. This project alone should prevent the emission of 700,000 tCO2eq over the next 7 years. Clean cooking solutions also significantly reduce the smoke in households, improving health conditions.

CSA - Climate-Smart Agriculture project

About the project:
Climate-Smart Agriculture project was developed and is being implemented by RDIS organisation together with two dioceses of the Anglican church of Rwanda, namely Shyogwe and Cyangugu. The project is implemented in two phases, starting with Cyangugu diocese. It is meant to address the adverse effects of climate change, such as land degradation, deforestation, lower food production, unemployment etc, while also complementing the nation's efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Rwanda.
The general objective of this project is therefore to increase farmer's productivity by introducing the use of solar-powered irrigation farming and greenhouses technologies, as well as to enhance environmental protection in the communities by providing training on field to 200 households in Nyamiyaga sector and 200 households in Kamembe sector.

Key objectives of the project:
- To introduce and disseminate Greenhouse technology and improved Irrigation technology that is driven by renewable energy
- To increase farmers' production by efficient irrigation methods
- To replace the current fuel water pumps so as to save water, fuel and CO2 emissions
- To create Employment or Income Generating Activities through Irrigation farming
- To raise the community awareness on environmental conservation
- To train farmers on animal rearing methods, impact to crops growing, environment care and their interdependency
- To facilitate the replication of the project in other areas by dissemination of innovative information, best practices and examples

One of RDIS founding members got a new Bishop

Butare Diocese of the Anglican Church of Rwanda, one of RDIS founding member got a new Bishop. The Right Rev. Christophe Nshimyimana was consecrated and enthroned in St Paul Cathedral in Huye District on 10th December 2023 as a fourth Bishop of EAR Butare Diocese. The ceremony was led by the Most Rev. Dr Laurent Mbanda, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Rwanda together with other Rwanda Anglican Bishops, and was attended by church members and church partners. The guest of honour, Hon. Musabyimana Jean Claude, Rwanda Minister of Local Government who emphasized on the fact that followers of the church are citizens of the country hence under shared responsibilities, reiterated that the government asks and ensures the continued cooperation with Butare diocese. In the Bishop’s strategic priorities, he pointed out the environmental safeguarding and holistic community development which is in line with the mission statement of RDIS.
Staff Meeting to Discuss Progress of Improved Cookstoves Project in Rusizi District

On Wednesday 29/03/2023, the Rural Development Inter-Diocesan Service (RDIS) held a staff meeting at it's headquarters in Muhanga city, which focussed mainly on the progress of the newly initiated project: “Improved Cookstoves Project in Rusizi”. The meeting, which was attended by all project staff, and chaired by the Executive Secretary, Mr Viateur Ntarindwa, provided an opportunity for reviewing the project's achievements, and challenges and also to identify areas for improvement.
