"By purchasing carbon credits through our project you will not only improve people’s lives and reduce carbon emissions, but also alleviate other problems associated with excessive use of firewood."

RDIS organisation's project for distribution of improved cook stoves in Rwanda has reached the final project stage of issuance. On 19/11/2020 RDIS's carbon credits were issued by the CDM in respect of the three ICSEA CPAs (Uganda Carbon Bureau) that were recently monitored and verified, of which RDIS's share was 7,635.

Note: Issuance is the final project stage which occurs after third-party auditors have guaranteed a project has avoided carbon dioxide or its equivalent. Once a project has met all requirements by its voluntary standard, the developer can apply to a standards body to issue eligible offsets. Issuance takes place once a carbon offset project has been validated, verified, and undergone other required processes.

CARBON CREDITS IN ACTION – More than 6,300 households in Rwanda are cooking on improved rural wood stoves which have been distributed by RDIS organization in the past 3 years. By purchasing carbon credits through this project you will not only improve people’s lives and reduce carbon emissions, but you will also alleviate other problems associated with the use of firewood such as eye and respiratory diseases.

Call for action to tackle Climate Change:

Solving climate change is a huge international challenge. Only a concerted global effort, involving the governments of all nations, will be enough to avert the dangerous consequences. More importantly, individual actions of everyday people are crucial.

Some tips for everyone for avoiding the release of CO2:

  • Make your home and household energy efficient.
  • Buy energy and water efficient appliances.
  • Recycle, re-use ...
  • Buy local produce ...
  • But, you can also easily offset what you can’t save or avoid through RDIS project!
Of course, avoiding the release of CO2 and other greenhouse gases is by far the best and most direct way or reducing our climate change impact. Yet some emissions are unavoidable. For those, offsetting is a worthwhile option.
This is done by purchasing ‘carbon credits’ from accredited companies such as Klima-Kollekte - Kirchlicher Kompensationsfonds gGmbH, which offers this service, who will then invest the money in for example distribution of improved cookstoves (as we are doing!), in renewable energy projects or in tree planting projects.
